ok, that's two words
i heard this several times today
dear wikipedia,
what does this even really mean?
where does it come from?
ok, so wikipedia doesn't even know. but "wiktionary" does:
laundry list (plural laundry lists)
1. (archaic) Originally, a list of articles of clothing that had been sent to be laundered
- 1920, Scouting for Girls Handbook of the Girl Scouts, First Edition, The Girl Scouts, Inc., pg 126. Learn how to make out a laundry list and check it when the laundry comes home
2. Hence, a long list of items, especially an exhaustive one
Ok, so it wasn't that hard to figure out. but the phrase is used an awful lot. i call it the vecini complex. "inconceivable" he used it so many times that his companion, montoya, just assumed that he really didn't know what it means. (princess bride)
anyway, i'm going to adopt a tradition practiced on other blogs... ok ladies and gentlemen, now introducing: quotes of the day!
these are great for anyone. whether you know the context or not, i think you may enjoy these. they come form overheard phrases, random sentences from conversations, and/or things that made me want to laugh during a lecture.
"relationships makes music. relationships makes matter."
"evolution is a dance"
"we're going to try to get through the chapter on communication, but i don't think we will."
"littering is the evidence of poor toilet training."
